Coz mine needed n it was on the cd that came wid my motherboard as well i m running xp as well stevek member since: messages: 387 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Might want to verify that your particular PC's USB physical port is functional - I use a USB Mouse as a test device. Or use Microsoft Update, and look for any USB Hardware updates.

But I occasionally had a situation where Xedit refused to launch because it could not detect the GNX4 hardware - despite it being correctly attached. I copied the entire GNX4 XEdit/Driver CD to a new folder on my Hard Drive - just for these emergencies. I power the GNX4 1st, then attach the USB cable to the PC and then power on the PC - (running WinXP). If the Digitech USB driver fails to load properly, I navigate to the folder I created above, and double click on 'usbinstaller.exe' - it has a Digitech graphic icon. this re-runs the Digitech USB Driver Installer application and will correct the problem. Driving me nuts! MARK007 member since: messages: 289 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Delete and reinstall drivers, make sure you press the CF button on gnx4 Smegolas member since: messages: 210 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Mark thats the problem, i cant seem to install the drivers. When i put the xedit cd in and click on usb audio and midi drivers, windows tells me 'for windows xp or newer, installing the driver requires that the device be plugged in when this installer is run. Please insert the device into your computer and then rerunthe installer application.' Needless to say, my usb is already plugged into the gnx and computer.

When you say the CF button, do you mean the CF/USB 1-2 LVL button? When i hit that, my GNX says 'no usb'. Strummin6 member since: messages: 29 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!??

Have you restarted your computer? I was having an error saying that all the ports were assigned (only have two usb ports out of 6 used) but I rebooted and it went away. I still had to reload the drivers because for some reason some variable gets set in protracks that won't let it run after you've had a usb driver gummed up. Reboot, reload, reboot and it should go. Smooth sailing since then.

The tech guy at the office always gets me on this one. I tell him my keyboards fudged or my mouse is frozen and he checks a couple things and asks me if I rebooted.

Usually fixes the problem. He's been doing this thing with me for years, kind of a joke now. Stevek member since: messages: 387 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Its possible you have a broken GNX4 - can you return it for a new one? Or contact Digitech support for warranty repair. I would try a different computer 1st.

When things are working, you simply power up both PC and GNX4 - then attach the USB cable, and then wait a few seconds for WinXP to display 'New device found' in the lower right of your Display. Bjeff member since: messages: 570 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? I would try a different usb cable if you haven't already. Smegolas, Copy the content of the X-edit CD to your computer's hard Drive and reinstall the drivers from there, double-click on the USBinstaller.exe you've just copied over in a folder on the desktop or anywhere convenient on your hardrive, leave the drivers on the hard drive afterwards. People having problems with drivers disapearing or GNX4 not being recognized after a reboot should do this and it'll fix the problem for good. With XP you need to plug in the GNX only when the Driver installer prompts you to do so.

The installer can't detect a 'new' device If it's already connected so it won't be detected. Danhgilmore member since: messages: 13 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Smeg, I called Digitech support yesterday after having those same problems. Turns out, my sound card, Realtek 97, was the culprit. I went out and got a new Soundblaster, uninstalled everything, reinstalled it, and I've not had probs with the USB since. Hope this helps Smegolas member since: messages: 210 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!??

Thanks for everyones help. Ive solved the problem, and i'll explain how in case people with similar problems are reading this in the future. Turns out the usb port on the gnx was shot.

So i returned the unit and got another one and it works fine! And let me tell you, the GNX4 is waaaaaaaaaaaay better when the usb works!

Marcio member since: messages: 5 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? I think I have a similar problem. Before I return my unit, I would like to make sure there is no other solution out there. I tried all solutions posted in this message, but I still have the same problem. My situation is: when I plug the USB cable, the dialog box 'New device found' pops up and then it says 'General Purpose USB Hub'.

The light of the CF Storage button continues turned off. I try to follow the instructions of the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' but it never works. Today, I called Digitech and they told me to uninstall my McAfee Antivirus before connecting the GNX4 unit.

I did it but, guess what, I received the same error message 'Cannot install this Hardware'. If I had not bought this online, I would just replace this unit for a new one. However, if I send this back to Musiciansfriend they will take at least one week to send me a new one. Conclusion, you guys are my last hope!! Alberto Aguirre member since: messages: 1037 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Wait, are you installing the drivers at all? Marcio member since: messages: 5 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!??

I run the usbinstaller.exe but it says that I need to plug the unit. But the unit is already connected. Alberto Aguirre member since: messages: 1037 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Have you tried running usbinstaller, then when it says to connect the GNX4, connect it? What OS do you have?

Marcio member since: messages: 5 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? Yes, but I still get the same error message. I have XP with all windows updates. Thanks for your time, Alberto.

If you have more suggestions, I will really appreciate it. Alberto Aguirre member since: messages: 1037 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? I thing I had the same problem at the beginning.

Adapter

With the GNX4 connected Under control panel-System-Hardware tab-Device Manager-Universal Serial Bus Controllers I deleted every entry-even the standard ones, overkill but I couldn't distinguish them. I then disconnected the GNX4, rebooted the machine, ran usbinstaller, and connected the GNX4. Marcio member since: messages: 5 Subject: Re: installing usb drivers???!?? I have 10 entries in total.

I have already tried to delete some of them but I ended up messing with my webcam and printer (which I had a similar installation problem in the past and the solution was to restore my computer to a certain date when the printer was working properly). Some of the USB controllers install automatically without any major issue after I reboot, however, there are some others that make a huge impact and, at the end, I have to restore my computer to an earlier date.
