The same question about learning Sanskrit Grammar online or offline. There are so many form generators to know the forms and dictionaries to know the meanings.
And So many grammar books in different languages online and offline for easy reference. It is computation Sanskrit age and why people are learning grammar in schools instead of teaching Computational Sanskrit? It is not easy to change the system deep rooted for ages.
That is the answer. On 11/30/14, ken p wrote:.In Internet age, Why buy Sanskrit books when you can learn using on line resources?.Sanskrit is taught in a complex script allover in Indian schools and colleges but how many Sanskrit graduates are fluent in Sanskrit?

My simple comment is Language Set up has to be installed in mind itself, and then one can speak a language which he has learnt from books. Otherwise it is the same condition for any language, other than one's mother tounge. It needs special effort for speaking, as in the case of foreign languages, in the case of Sanskrit also, Spoken Sanskrit is the movement in this direction. No book is necessary, only training to speak is the need of the time, as other sources are available online and offline. CVK 01.12.14 6:08. Furthermore, translation to an inferior language ( where there are not enough words to describe deep concepts) is a lossy translation.
We have works of literature in Sanskrit where there are multiple layers of meanings, beautiful and artistic structural formulations and specific intonations. IMHO, to 'read it in translations' is like.reading. Mozart's music notes on paper - lossy, and misrepresented. But why go there when we can easily learn the language (given that we have learned English - a foreign language, this should not be too hard). Why lean on crutches instead of enjoying and appreciating the original.:). I see there is a great interest in self-study books to learn Sanskrit. Each and every book has its utility and depending on an individual's way of learning one book might help more than the other.
